No Promises

No promises… because promises are meant to be broken. But the word of someone you trust, always kept, is always better than any promise. That’s why there has never been any promises…Only beautiful surprises as we grow. Only new discoveries even in difficult situations that try us. Only another opportunity to be strong. Only another chance to forgive and accept.

Yes. People change. It is our nature. We mature. We learn new things. Meet new people. When we feel like we’ve lost something, we try to replace it with whatever is there. A father figure for a father. A bottle of beer for a friend. Music for company. A movie for an experience that’s out of the ordinary. But when all the smoke clears, the ones we hold in our heart remain in the special corners we have reserved just for them.

Life is like a deck of cards. We do what we can with the cards that we are dealt. A little prayer, a little luck and we just might win the game. Except that we know we’re not really playing. If it is true and destined by the Good Lord to be only for you, even when you leave for the restrooms in the middle of a free concert, nobody can take your place in the front row seats.

Sometimes it seems that the time calls for you have to let go of someone important. But when he shows up at your door with a suitcase full of memories and a book for a heart with pages waiting to be filled up with yet another chapter of your Great Adventure, you know you have to give Love a chance always just one more time. When he spends happy hour with your brothers and challenges your dad to a conversation of wits and then sits with you on a balcony when the night has grown quiet and tells you that in everything he has been doing and about to do, you are where it all ends… you have to give Love a chance, always one more time.

No promises.

Promises were meant to be broken.

Only Trust.

And always one more time…
