On February Holidays

Valentines day was From Duty day.

We went to this dinner at the Lake House with my parents and their peers. Everybody was in red and mostly above 40 and fabulous. That night, they all looked way younger in spirit than the two of us, worn out and smelling of hospital. I was in a wrinkled up blouse that hasn’t been changed since that morning. He was covered in splotches of plaster paris. While the grown ups where tango-ing their night away, we were slouched up in our outdoor table like tired old geezers and laughing at ourselves while we’re at it.

“Would you like to go get a couple of beers?” he asked.

“Sure.” I answered enthusiastically.

But we never got there. We deposited out stuff at my house and he told me to go fancy myself up, but when I came down, he was snoring on our living room couch like an immovable elephant and the kids were giggling at him like he was a rare animal at the zoo.

What else could a girl do but give in to the will of nature? To wake something like that would be the

cruelest thing in the world to do. I simply couldn’t.

So, if you can’t beat ‘em… join ‘em!

He does get a “A” for effort.

On our next From duty-day, we decided to catch a movie.

Our first big screen movie date in a long, long while.

Legion. Starring that guy who played the albino monk in the Da Vinci Code. The same guy who starred with Kirsten Dunst in Wimbledon. It’s between that and a Filipino chick flick. No contest, but in the end,

it didn’t matter much.

We both found ourselves snoring on each others’ shoulders.

February holidays. We both agree they’re overrated. But we find ourselves constantly making up for it.

Somehow. :)
