The Forever Traveller

I feel like a forever traveler.

Just when you thought you’ve learned Life’s lessons the hard way, you discover the class isn’t over yet.

Just because the bus has stopped doesn’t mean your feet doesn’t have a few more steps to make.

And just because you’re finally home doesn’t mean you won’t be packing your bags again soon…

I don’t know if it will ever stop, the comings and goings we all do here. This world is just one big terminal and we’re all just waiting for our bus. That sounds so cliche doesn’t it? Like that Tom Hanks movie.

In the meantime, we make use of the Waiting Time in this Waiting Place and discover that even the waiting is itself a sort of travel. From one acquaintance to the next. From one string of conversations to another. A series of all kinds of exchanges: money, words, smiles, hellos, goodbyes…

Some people prefer the company of a book. Most of them aren’t actually being read. They’re just discrete signs that say:”I travel alone”. Or a set of earphones whispering poetry of every kind, disguised as something like music. To each his own, I say , when it comes to our preferred modes of travel.

Sometimes we meet a fellow traveler who engages us in a Waiting Game where we forget we’re actually waiting, and when our bus arrives, we are either sorry for how time flew so fast, robbing us of something essential but we don’t actually know what it was, or delighted that the waiting wasn’t such a long uneventful ticking of seconds, but a kind of adventure in itself.

A forever traveler… I don’t know where I’m heading…I just know I’ heading somewhere…and here comes the cheesy part: I’m glad you ignored the sign and pulled my nose from that book and engaged me in a Waiting Game that made me forget I was actually waiting…I sure hope you and I are “Not-waiting” for the same bus… :)
